What is Open Streets?

An all-volunteer DIY Lowell Project Team organized Lowell’s very own pilot Open Streets event in on Saturday, Oct 4, 2025. It was free fun – family and student friendly! For one afternoon, Merrimack Street between Kirk and Central was closed to vehicular traffic and open to you! More than a thousand people from Lowell and beyond came to celebrate (check out our photo gallery).

So we’re hosting another one this year. Same footprint, same weekend, longer hours, more fun!

Date: Saturday, October 3, 2026
Time: Noon – 5 PM
Location: Merrimack Street, between Kirk and Central (Parking and transit)
